SIMPLE OBSERVATIONS OD EVERYDAY LIFE

Welcome to my updated site. I hope you enjoy my gentle brand of humor. If you made it here, please come back for more of my simple observations of everyday life.

ABOUT ME

As I started writing this about page, and going over all the highlights in my life, I thought to myself, “Wow, I’ve kind of led a boring life.” I never became rich or famous, or even successful in business. Haven’t traveled the world, and seen many of its wonders. I’ve never done some of the exciting things many people do, like skydiving, bungee jumping, mountain climbing, and  scuba diving. If you saw me walking down the street, I wouldn’t stand out as someone especially handsome, unique in some way, or either a marathon runner or a gym rat. I’m a big man though, and I try to keep in shape. You might see me as an average man, who seems solid and dependable. Someone with an easy smile, and a quiet confidence. A person who doesn’t say very much, isn’t a social butterfly, but is someone you could count on in a crisis,  and would be an incredibly loyal friend. I might even remind you of someone you know.
I like to think of myself as hardworking, and intense. I’m a lot like my late father. He taught me many things, and I’ve thought of writing a book about them called, “Rules for Living.” It seems kind of strange, but I live my life by many of these rules, all of which are carved in stone, and  unbreakable – no matter the circumstances. I even hold doors open for women. I don’t do it because they’re weak, and incapable of doing it themselves. If you’ve met my wife; you would see she is far from helpless She’s a nurse practitioner, and has worked incredibility hard to get to where she is today. I do it as a sign of respect, and a heartfelt thank you for giving us the gift of our children, and putting up with all of our manly craziness. Maybe, my rules are a little strange, outdated, and following them is the reason I haven’t been as successful as I’d like to be. I guess it’s okay to be an average person, and not set the world on fire…..YET.
In spite of some struggles in my life, and some rough times, I’ve found real happiness. I’ve been married to the same wonderful woman for over twenty-three years, raised two strong and independent son’s, and have had a life full of meaning and purpose. I also have a one-year-old granddaughter, who brings me incredible joy. I spent many years in the construction industry; half of it working in the field, in hard, backing-breaking work, and the other half in various management positions.
I’m not exactly sure why, I got into writing. I’m normally a quiet, and introspective person. I like to stand in the background, and listen to what’s being said, or watch what’s happening. I’m a keen observer of the world around me. I look at, and think about the simplest things. I also like to make people laugh, and some of the tall tales I came up with over the years, were legendary among my friends, family and coworkers. I was once told that I was the funniest man in the world, and didn’t even know it. I started a few years ago to put my simple observations down on paper, and here I am today with the publication of my first book. I have a second one planned, based on this blog.
I now consider myself to be a storyteller, and an author. I don’t consider myself a writer yet. I still have a long way to go, before I reach some of the skill, and beautiful words put on paper by many of my fellow bloggers. Even if by a minor miracle, I became successful, and sold many books, I wouldn’t change. I’d be the same average man; plugging along every day, doing the best I can. I now hope you know a little about who I am. I greatly appreciate you being here. Thank you, and take care.
